I've been following this series of improv acoustic videos for a little while. Sometimes it works, most times it doesn't but this is the exception.

help Good Records celebrate Record Store Day

"Obviously it is raining out there but it is supposed to clear up by 2pm or so if not earlier tomorrow...our back up plan is if it rains and we need to move bands inside from the outdoor lineup we will do next door at the vacant Beagle bar which our landlords graciously have let us you as our rain contingency plan. We will have PA set up there just in case so it should be a smooth transisition. We will be outside tomorrow just not sure if all of the day. The stage is erected already and sound will come in as planned for that stage. It is going to be a special day so get ready. Bring a red, white, and blue umbrella just in case and your ears and appetite for all things good."

Ian Svenonius new band coming to Denton

Looks like Ian is doing it again. This time the band is called Chain and the Gang. They will be coming to Hailey's in Denton on May 17 to promote their new album "Down with Liberty..Up with Chains". Their MySpace page had this to say about the album. "Down With Liberty … Up With Chains is simple and profound, the way a pebble on the beach is. There are no song cycles, sample beats, sequencers or baby pictures of the artist as a tot. The Gang is set to shuffle across the Land of Liberty in Spring 2009. Join them as they hope against hope, fan the flames, shake their fist and say “Yeh! Yeh! Down with Liberty! Up with Chains … Put those handcuffs on my hands.”

Extreme Bathrooms - Glass Lounge

See link for more fun and weird bathrooms
Extreme Bathrooms:
Glass Lounge, New York, New York
"To experience the next extreme bathroom, you don't even need to enter New York's Glass Lounge. That's because the mirror over the bathroom sink is actually a two-way mirror that peers onto New York's bustling Tenth Avenue. Checking your hair, applying lip gloss or just washing your hands, you'll be staring at your reflection while nosy New Yorkers on Tenth Ave. will be watching your every move."

Winter Gloves - Smells Like Teen Spirit cover

Wow, really is there a more obvious cover song? How about a cover of Stairway to Heaven?
That being said this is a very John Carpenteresque cover of the song that's not half bad.

the triumph of curves

BUST Magazine: "‘We are officially over skinny,’ London Times writer Shane Watson decrees. And by ‘we,’ Watson means everyone.

‘Women have started to envy other women, not for their jutting hipbones and the amount of daylight visible between their thighs, but for their soft and shapely bodies,’ the Times column proudly proclaims, listing the popularity of Joan on the show Mad Men, the appearance of Beth Ditto naked on the cover of the new UK magazine Love, and the fact that Vogue recently published photographs of the singer Adele without asking her to lose weight first as evidence of a watershed moment in Western culture’s–or at least pop culture’s–view of the female form."

Lawyer 4 Musicians ™

L4M is… Lawyer 4 Musicians ™: "Josh Kaplan often acts as a left brain guide to right brain thinkers in his effort to get the struggling artist to stop struggling quite so much and to treat his/her art as a business."

ApSci Under Control Video

Says Raphael about its making, which the duo did themselves:

“The main story on it is that it was shot using an iPhone, a portable printer and a webcam. The printouts are from us performing to webcam on a mac. The webcam video was converted to black & white, and printed out at 5 frames per second (4 up on a page, cut by hand). We then walked around different cities we were touring and shot the photos in sequence. Every frame in the clip is a picture, no video was shot. No special effects in post-production. About 4,000 pictures were edited into the clip (whew). It starts in Brooklyn, goes to the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Honolulu and ends in Sydney.”

Rick Ross/50 Cent dispute in Graph Form

Another graph from NYTimes. This one charts the on going feud between Rick Ross and 50 Cent. Which leads me to the question. Who is Rick Ross?

Yeah Yeah Yeahs Maps

I was watching Kill Your Idols today and realized this video is the reason I'm still willing to buy a new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album and why I still have a crush on Karen O. As MTV generation as that is, I hope I still never meet her. I'll probably end up shooting guacamole out of my nose.
