Long Awkward Pose - Yahoo! Picks for June 21, 2006: "It's a universal human experience: Your pal picks up a camera, and you obligingly assume a posing-for-the-picture stance. How long do you hold the frozen grin, though, before suspicion creeps into your mind? How long before you wonder: Hey, what's going on here? Shutterbug and comedian Katie Dippold reveals the hilarity that ensues when people start thinking that way. Katie has hoodwinked friends and pranked family. Now she invites you in on the hoax. 'Tell your loved ones you would like to take their photo,' she coaxes, and 'then secretly videotape them.'"

New Business model for the music Industry
Techdirt has an article here talking about musician David Byrne's article on the new business model for the music industry. The article also speaks to Thom Yorke of Radiohead concerning their name your price scheme for In Rainbows. What struck me about this article is something Miss Info and I have talked about at length recently. The so called new business model is actually a very old if not the first model for the music industry. Due to ease of access to music files online, making money off your album is not really feasible these days. So, you make it the old fashion way, tour, tour, tour. Before greats like Elvis and Patsy Cline were anybody they played every one horse town and carnival in the states. Chances are your favorite band is being listed on Pitchfork right now as adding more tour dates to their already extensive tour.

friday fun facts - graduation regalia

ah, the goofy graduation gear. it never fails to amuse, and itch, but what does it mean?
"The origins of academic regalia remain an open question; paintings of non-clerics, in non-academic situations, from the 14th-16th centuries include gowns and caps that are quite similar to those worn by academics today...certain U.S. universities have fantastic doctoral robes: Johns Hopkins' PhDs wear shimmering gold satin; those from the University of Hawaii are splendid in emerald green; and the doctoral graduates of Princeton wear Halloween orange and black velvet...UC-Berkeley grads have the most elegant robes of all: deep blue-violet with subtle gold trim. Many universities publish information about it in their graduation programs each year. These can usually be found online:

cut off your hands

"Hailing from a land where there are more sheep than people, then venturing Stateside only to be threatened with a legal suit from a Portland, OR based band with the same name. It would seem the odds of making a name for yourself on an international level, both on the street and in the press are somewhat slim. Cut Off Your Hands (formerly Shaky Hands) however, have defied all reason and pricked the ears of many with their raw riffs and rampant rhythms, their energy comparable to those of Punk popsmiths Klaxons and The Pigeon Detectives, be very excited for these New Zealanders who are about to shake your world with the release of their debut Shaky Hands EP on October 9th (IAMSOUND) and a US tour soon to be announced." friday fun facts - electronic ink
We're not so far from having electronic ink tattoos, but what is e-ink...?"Electronic ink is a dark liquid dye containing white microcapsules, which can be controlled by an electric field. 'To form an E Ink electronic display, the ink is printed onto a sheet of plastic film that is laminated to a layer of circuitry.' According to Electronic Ink Corporation, E Ink 'retains the superior viewing characteristics of paper, including high contrast, wide viewing angle and bright paper-white background. . . . Electronic ink can be printed on almost any surface, from plastic to metal to paper. And it can be coated over large areas cheaply.'” (via the ACRL)
